Beekman studied at the Brabants Conservatory in Tilburg with Louis Toebosch. Having gained several diplomas, his Organ Solo Performance diploma (with highest distinction) included, he pursued his studies with Anton Heiller in Vienna. In 1975 he earned the Prix d’Excellence. In 1980, he became Professor of Organ at the ‘Brabants Conservatorium’ (now Fontys Conservatory) in Tilburg, and as from 1997 he is also organist of the Oostkerk in Middelburg.

He has given many recitals at home and abroad, and he has made numerous radio, TV, and CD recordings. In 2008 he gave several solo recitals during an organ festival in Beijing (China). He composed several works for organ, choir, and orchestra. For the LBCD label he has recorded the complete organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach on 14 baroque organs in the Netherlands (resulting in a total of 9 double-CD’s). The complete organ works of César Franck, performed on the Cavaillé-Coll organ of the Cathédrale Jean Baptist in Perpignan (France), were recorded on three CD’s.
